As you can see, Mom's having a great time! She claims today was her favorite day (yes, I know she's said that before!) The group pedaled 75 very hilly miles to Kirksville. The ride leaders actually counted a total of 148 hills, which varied from rollers to some that were straight up, and others that went up and down and were followed by a flat section. Two of the climbs prior to lunchtime required standing up. At the briefing for today's ride Tracy, the group leader, advised everyone to ride downhill using their big chain ring and then pedal hard uphill and shift down. Mom tried this and had a "blast"! One of the other riders told her she looked like an "aerodynamic chisel". The scenery was especially enjoyable, with the rolling green countryside and all the cows and horses around. Mom spotted many small vegetable gardens, of course lamenting not having one of her own this year. Speaking of food, there were leftover cinnamon rolls from yesterday's breakfast in Maysville, so Mom helped out and ate one for breakfast this morning and another after the ride. She did have a couple oranges, too, for some balance! Her stats for the day: 75 miles, 5 hrs 4 min, max speed 36.7, average 14.8.
